about

Avant Trio ‘Blue Suns’

‘Blue’ like the notes they play. A color that matches the very specific Korean feeling of the blues that is called ‘Han’. ‘Suns’ for the warmth of the energy that they collectively communicate with solar lyricism.
‘Blue Suns’ like this three Korean musicians expressing the eternal tensions existing between opposites with an incredible sense of Freedom.

Francesca Han first gathered Kim Oki and Kim SungBae back in 2013 for concerts in Seoul around this common desire for free expression. Recording this unique Korean improvised music became an obvious necessity.

This album was recorded in two sessions of one day each in May and September 2014. No overdubs and all the pieces are first takes which are freely and collectively improvised. The ‘Avant Trio’ is truly a unique combination of musicians sharing their own strong artistic identity, and who are creating, from the depth of their heart, a common language never heard of before in Korea. And maybe beyond…
